FiV Music Business Services is founded and run by me, Hubert Sawyers III. I am a Digital Media Enthusiast, who after many forays into Music Making, Music Production and Music Marketing found a need for an objective long-term Music Industry Marketing resource. Whether you are a new artist, an up-and-coming producer or you've been around for years and are adjusting to the new ways that music-heads find artists, I would like to help you manage your music business affairs better.
This feature is just productivity exercise. I want to remind myself that it is not hard to showcase quality content. Case in point, I must share this audio/visual gem featuring producer/eMCee Nick Speed, made by Nic Notion.
Basically, The Nic(k)s explore the deep blue collar connection between the industrial plants and the industrious beats that permeate Detroit hip hop music. Notion juxtaposes scenes of assembly line activity and Speedo working on a new beat. It is hard to tell which is the grimy backdrop – the music or the film footage. It is this kind of work that inspires me and keeps me going. In a world that forces us to reconsider our value every day, we must share in each other’s creativity to keep up surging forth.
In my draft queue for this site, I have a really crappy write-up I did on Danny Brown, who happens to be one of my favorite Detroit eMCees at the moment. He came out of nowhere, hit the scene firing and killed anyone thinking of filling the void of the Detroit hip hop space first. Hot Soup put Detroit hip hop back on the map in 2008, what can I say. I wanted to write on the significance of Danny’s comeuppance, but I could not get the right words together. Epic passages were on my mind, but a part of me thinks it was too early for that.
That is okay though. Danny has had the innanetz going nuts. He did not need my seal of approval to make that happen. I mean, no one really does, but as a writer and a tastemaker it helps to show where my interests lie, so I am going to take my time and do a modest write-up.
