Hubert mentioned your poor fans. Some fans may not be poor but are using their money for college or buying alot of alcahol and stuff that leaves them little money for a CD at your shows.
A good tip is never let your fans leave empty handed... Free demos or mixtapes are a good thing. Stickers are even more cost effective and have a very long life and visibility.
As a "green" advocate cut down on paper flyers that have a very short life span and either put multiple concerts on one flyer (maybe in cooperation with your other artist friends, if you don't perform as often) or you can include a nice piece of art that flyer collectors like myself will cherish... Text and clip art is boring!!!
Finally back to my poor kids point. Many people don't have $10 in their pocket after all is said and done. I might have only a few dollars crumpled in my pocket but still want a souvineer from my awsome concert I just saw! I like memories! I have shoe boxes full of momentos from my travels. You can very affordably offer patches or wristbands, premium stickers even cheap posters (that cost like $1 to make at kinkos on 11x17 paper). Most fans wants to support, we as artists just need to make it feasable and economical for them!
